With the help of ooniprobe people will be able to actively participate in uncovering censorship online and to test the performance of the network. The application can check to see if websites are being blocked and report the findings so that other people get this information.
The service has been around since 2012, and it has gathered information about millions of websites from more than 190 countries. The application lets users see if the websites are being blocked through DNS tampering, TCP/IP blocking, or by a transparent HTTP proxy. Furthermore, tips on how to bypass such measures are also provided.
ooniprobe also implements Network Diagnostic Test (NDT), allowing the app to connect to nearby servers and properly test the network connection.
