Uncap

0.3.0

Instantly map the Caps Lock key to Escape, or create more complex mappings that can be activated with a couple of mouse clicks, with this small utility mainly designed for vi Editor users

When using vi Editor, it is necessary to press the Escape key in order to exit insert mode, which normally requires you to move your hand from the home row and can interrupt your workflow. However, you can get around this issue by mapping Esc to another key.
Uncap is a simple utility designed for this very purpose. It can remap Caps Lock to Escape instantly, and it also allows you to create other mappings that can be enabled or disabled just as easily.

Create or disable the Caps Lock to Esc mapping with a couple of mouse clicks

The application consists of a single executable file, and you can launch it to instantly map Caps Lock to Escape. The program will continue to run in the background, and you can shut it down from Task Manager or with the “uncap -k” console command.
If you want to be able to activate and disable the mapping on a moment’s notice, you can just create two shortcuts on your desktop – a simple one to launch the program, and another one with the “-k” argument in the target field to shut it down.

Set up complex key mappings

While Uncap is primarily designed for vi Editor users, it also allows you to create multiple key mappings that can be activated with a simple command. You will need to start it in the command console to configure everything, and you can use the “uncap -h” command to bring up some instructions.
Once you’ve finished setting everything up, you can just start the program from a shortcut or batch file, with the necessary arguments.
In short, Uncap is a lightweight and fairly straightforward utility that can help out numerous users, although it is mainly indented for those who need to bind Caps Lock to Escape while using vi Editor.
