Find out more about the DNS queries performed by various processes on your computer to detect suspicious activity or faulty configurations via this app

Considering that DNS has the role of ensuring your connection to all online services, it does not come as a surprise that it is among the top targets of cybercriminals. Consequently, keeping a close eye on it represents a crucial part of maintaining the security of any IT infrastructure.
DNSLookupView is a lightweight utility that provides a simple way to trace all DNS queries sent through the DNS Windows client and that can lend you a hand with the monitoring task.

Displays all DNS queries neatly in a detailed list

The app is portable, so simply download and decompress the archive in the desired location. The interface consists of a single window and getting started entails pressing the small start button located right under the menus. Alternatively, you can use the F5 shortcut to start the capturing and F6 to stop the entire process.
The app reacts immediately and starts collecting DNS queries in real-time that are displayed as a list within the interface. The list includes details about all queries, including the host name, process ID, thread ID, process name, process path, time as well as the query type, status and result. The results can be exported to XML or JSON file or you can simply save the selected items to clipboard so you can paste them into a spreadsheet later on.

A simple and straightforward tool for monitoring DNS queries

According to the developer, the application solely works on operating systems that support DNS tracing, namely Windows 10 and Windows 8.1. For older operating systems, you may need to trace the origin of the DNS resolutions through other methods.
Regardless of whether you want to find out if you are a victim of possible attack attempts or the faulty configuration of the Domain Name System is affecting the performance of your websites and connections, DNSLookupView may come in handy.
