DISM_GUI

1.1

A frontend for the Deployment Image Servicing and Management Tool (DISM) of Windows, allowing you to access various functions easier

The Deployment Image Servicing and Management Tool (or, in short, DISM) is a collection of commands in Windows 10 that are used for making sure that Windows images are intact and properly configured prior to deployment. With the help of DISM, you can get information about WIM images or virtual hard disks (VHD) and address issues that might cause images not to work properly.

A GUI for the key commands of DISM

Although a tool such as DISM addresses experienced users, not everybody is comfortable working with the command console. That is where DISM_GUI comes in, providing a frontend for the commands included in the DISM toolbox.
What can you do with DISM_GUI, you might think. Well, this application can initiate health checks without you having to type in any command, with just the push of a button. Some of the key options in DISM are also included in DISM_GUI but more might be added in future releases.

The commands included in the GUI

The “Check” button corresponds to the CheckHealth command, which can help you verify if there is a component memory corruption. Moving further on, the “Scan” button allows you to start a health scan to reveal all the errors in the Windows image.
The “Repair” button triggers the RestoreHealth command, which finds and fixes errors in the WinSxS folder. There is also an option to analyze the component store, which runs a verification of the component memory and shows you whether additional memory can be released. The component store can be cleaned with DISM_GUI using the designated option.
Other options available in the DISM_GUI allow you to install CAB file updates and repair Windows with SFC.

A handy frontend for important DISM commands

DISM_GUI comes in handy to those who prefer a standard interface over using the Windows console. With its help, you can run commands included in the DISM toolbox without having to remember their syntax and without having to deal with the command console.
