Unless your phone has dual cameras, measuring distances with your phone is not really possible. On the other hand, applications such as Distance can be used in this regard with single-camera phones with a simple trick.
The problem is that the user and the phone don’t know the dimensions of the things shown with the camera, and that includes the distance between the camera and other objects. The trick with the Distance app is that the user has to input at least one of the measurements, thus making the work a lot easier.
It’s still not a very precise method, but at least it can provide some general dimensions.
