Zoom Web Site Editor

0.9.3.0 Beta

A web page editing application that allows you to work directly on the FTP server where your web project is stored, without having to download all the files offline

If you are worried about your web development project being safe then uploading it to an FTP server is one of the options you can choose, although not the most secure. Afterward, you can either download all the files locally to start working or use an application such as Zoom Web Site Editor to edit the project files directly over FTP or HTTP.

Connect to the FTP server and have the application build the website's index

Zoom Web Site Editor is nothing more than an editor with a simple twist: it enables you to connect to an FTP server, builds your website's index based on the data in the root directory, and enables you to edit the content of files without having to download them first.
Upon launch, you are prompted to fill in the connection details for the target FTP server, namely the host's address, the used protocol, the root folder and the website's URL, as well as your user's credentials. Once you test the connection and everything is ok, you can proceed to the next step, which consists in the re-build of your website's index based on the files Zoom Web Site Editor finds in the root directory.

Simple editor with all the basic features

The main window of Zoom Web Site Editor conveniently displays all the files in the root folder in a tree view. Double-clicking on any file loads it in the editor, where you can start modifying its contents.
The editor is compatible with HTML, JavaScript, PHP, Python, and other programming languages, providing syntax highlighting for each language. It features support for hyperlinks, images and HTML tables, enabling you to insert such objects directly from its main toolbar.
To your advantage, various other tools are placed in the toolbar as well, which makes the application both accessible and easy to use. Zoom Web Site Editor also features a color calculator to determine the correct RGB code, as well as an embedded code snippet editor.

A web editor that requires a bit more work to be competitive

Zoom Web Site Editor is probably not the best web development editor you've seen so far, but it comes with a basic feature set that seems promising and the possibility to work over FTP/HTTP directly. The interface looks a bit outdated, with all the big buttons that, although intended to place all the tools within reach, might be a bit too much. Other than that, Zoom Web Site Editor also comes with features that could come in handy to any web developer, such as the sitemap generator.
