Voxengo AnSpec

An analog-style spectrum analyzer plugin that you can use with your digital audio workstation to measure the signal amplitude of a frequency

Polishing a musical production is a task that sometimes requires a scientific level of sound knowledge. But a well-mixed and mastered track is what a sound engineer can achieve with the right skills and tools. A lot of this can be done by carefully analyzing the frequency patterns of the various instruments that make up a song, or of the song itself. When you hear that something is wrong, a spectrum analyzer can give you the visual hints as to what frequencies may require tweaking.
If you’re working with a digital audio workstation, then you probably already have such a tool in your production arsenal. But that doesn’t mean you can’t look for other plugins that may provide you with more information, have a more interesting design or be easier to integrate within your workflow.
Voxengo AnSpec is a plugin that conducts a third-octave spectrum analysis of your musical productions. Its interface mimics that of analog spectrum analyzers, and should therefore be used by producers and sound engineers that are more attracted to that specific look. The plugin doesn’t allow you to adjust any sound parameters, which is why it should probably be used along with an equalizer that can boost or cut the frequencies that need adjustment.
