VolView

3.4

An application that you can use to visualize complex 3D medical data and allows you to further explore or make saves of visualization sessions

VolView is a lightweight utility that provides a simple and straightforward way to analyze and explore complex 3D medical and scientific data. The tool relies on an embedded Visualization Toolkit (VTK) that is not only well-known, but also highly appreciated in the scientific community for its advanced 3D graphics rendering for more than 20 years.
The other noteworthy technologies that support this versatile app, include 3D Slicer, ParaView and Tomviz. ParaView is reputable utility that is appreciated for its interactive scientific visualization functions, such as volume rendering, whereas Tomviz is a tailor program for electron tomography data and ensures a quality view of 3D datasets. 3D Slicer is a known name in the medical image informatics that packs advanced functions for image processing and DICOM support.
The idea behind the program is that it enables you to generate informative images from datasets and navigate the data further using a variety of 2D and 3D tools and display methods. Among the tools that the application packs, you can count oblique reformatting, volume rendering or maximum intensity projections. A nice feature is that you can save the current visualization session individually and, according to the developer, you can start and end sessions whenever you came across relevant data.
