UML Editor

3.6.2 Build 20151223

Create and edit UML and INTERLIS documents with this practical application that allows you to export projects to JPEG, WMF and SVG formats

UML Editor is a lightweight software application whose purpose is to help you create, develop, view and manipulate schemas. It is able to read and write INTERLIS syntax and GML schemas.

Portable tool

The portable status comes with several benefits to your system. It does not entries in the Windows registry and other configuration data in your computer, so you may run it on the target system without administrative privileges.
Gaining access to the tool’s GUI implies only opening the executable file (no setup is included in the process). You can install the app by deleting the files that you have grabbed from the Internet.
This is a Java-based program so you need to install the working environment on your computer before running it.

User interface

UML Editor does not impress in the visual department. The GUI cannot be described as highly intuitive so you need some extra time to get used to working with the program’s features.
You can keep track of all your class diagrams and UML packages using an Explorer-like layout, as well as delete or rename them.

Importing/exporting options

You can print or save the diagrams to UML file format, export image diagrams to JPEG, SVG or WMF file format, import INTERLIS model files (ILI file format), as well as add information from XML files.

Create class diagrams

UML Editor lets you insert various predefined objects in the working environment, such as note, package, class, association and dependency. You can move items to the desired position using the drag-and-drop support, resize objects by dragging their corners, and zoom in or out of the layout.
In addition, you can undo or redo your actions, cut, copy, paste or delete objects, find/replace data, adjust the size of the class diagrams (width and height), change the line and background colors of an object, as well as add new attributes and methods.

Bottom line

To sum it up, there’s no doubt UML Editor hosts a suite of handy features for helping you define class diagrams but it still needs some refinements to make the GUI look cleaner and more intuitive.
