HE - Hardware Read & Write Portable

1.21.6.4

Inspect details about your hardware configuration, such as PCI, Memory, I/O, Super I/O, Clock, SPD, SMBus, MSR, ATA, ACPI, EC and USB

Made as the portable counterpart of HE - Hardware Read & Write, this is a feather-light software application that gives you the possibility to inspect technical information about your computer's hardware configuration. It's dedicated to experts as well as casual users looking to upgrade their machines.

No setup required

Since there is no installation involved, you can drop the program files in any part of the disk and just click the executable to launch HE. Otherwise, you can save it to a USB flash drive to directly run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers. It doesn't change Windows registry settings, unlike most installers.

Classical and well-structured interface

The GUI is user-friendly and consists of a large window that keeps data split into multiple panes. This way, you can easily examine details surrounding the USB, BIOS, ACPI EC space, I/O, memory, PCI, SMBus, Super IO, Option Rom, MP configuration, system, processor, memory SPD, display, physical storage, and ACPI.

Compile reports and export hardware details

Data can be seamlessly refreshed on any page as well as compiled into a summary or report and saved as a text document. As expected, HE has minimal impact on computer performance, thanks to the fact that it needs low CPU and RAM to work properly. It showed accurate information and didn't cause the operating system to hang, crash or display error messages in our tests.

Conclusion

Too bad that HE hasn't been updated for a long time, and its interface could use a facelift. Other than that, it comes bundled with a lot of useful information about installed hardware, which should come in handy to all kinds of users.
