Disk Space Cleanup Utility

1.2

A lightweight command line utility that performs various actions to delete all the Windows Updates downloads from your computer and free up storage space

It is advisable that you allow Windows to download and apply updates automatically, not just to make sure you benefit from the latest features and options, but also for security-related reasons. However, the update files that Windows downloads are system files that take up a significant amount of storage space. When Windows performs an important upgrade, these files are not deleted automatically. Therefore, you might end up having low disk space on your computer. That is when Disk Space Cleanup Utility comes in to save the day.

A console application that executes various commands in batch

Disk Space Cleanup Utility is a console application that performs a thorough disk cleanup, also applying several tweaks to deactivate functions that take up storage space. It practically executes a series of operations in a predefined sequence, without you having to lift a finger to get more disk space.
Since it meddles with the system’s settings and operations, administrator rights are mandatory in order to launch and use the Disk Space Cleanup Utility.
You simply have to double click on the batch file and the application takes care of everything. Although this makes everything easier and faster, more advanced users might not like it that the application does not ask for permission before performing an action. Therefore, it’s highly important to be aware of the changes that will be applied.

Applies several tweaks to get storage space

First of all, Disk Space Cleanup Utility removes the hibernation feature of Windows, which takes a significant amount of space. Secondly, it performs a few tweaks to save storage space, such as moving the pagefile.sys file, cleaning the WinSXS folder and running disk cleanup to get rid of temporary and cache files, as well as system files that are not needed.
Next, it clears the Windows Updates Cache, but not before stopping the Update service. This operation is not recommended however, but when running low on storage, it might be the solution of last resort.
Last but not least, the application can execute some commands that you see available in the DISM built-in app, reducing the amount of storage space used by service packs, removing superseded components, cleaning the thumbnail database, and more.

Tries to free up as much storage space as possible

Disk Space Cleanup Utility performs various operations in batch to help you free up storage space as soon as possible. It does not ask you for permission, but it only removes components that can be eliminated without altering the functionality of Windows. To apply the changes, a reboot might be required.
