Dendroscope

3.7.2

A smart application that lets you view large phylogenetic trees and networks, browse and edit them, as well as exporting the trees to mulitiple formats

Dendroscope is a specialized tool designed to help you view large phylogenetic trees and networks from databases that feature hundreds of thousands of taxa. According to the developer, the application comes with easily editable options so you can modify the trees accordingly and enjoy a rather simple interactive browsing.
The need for the tool stemmed from the fact that numerous biology studies out there rely on trees to represent various evolutionary history events such as horizontal gene transfer, hybridization or reassortment. Unfortunately, the phylogenetic networks have been less used mostly due to the lack of specialty tools that can help scientists analyze the data accordingly.
Some of the advantages of the program include the ability to represent multiple trees and networks from a single file via an m by n grid, subtrees that can be highlighted with colors or collapsed, rerooting of trees and magnifying features that let you zoom in for a detailed view.
The application supports seven types of views, including radial, circular, rectangular and slanted and allows you to export your final tree or network as a standard PDF, SVG, PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP or EPS. Moreover, the app allows label editing and permit you to copy and paste objects from one window to another.
