BraceMatrix

1.1.2.0

Code viewer and simple editor for C/C++ programmers, featuring support for a project explorer, bookmarks, search function, and more

BraceMatrix is a plain and simple-to-use software application that permits C/C++ programmers to open and view their projects, as well as make some minor code modifications. It doesn't include complicated options or configuration settings.

Simple setup and interface

Installing this tool is a fast and simple job that shouldn't give you any trouble. As far as the interface is concerned, BraceMatrix is user-friendly, enabling you to open files with the .cpp, .h or .c format.

Examine and manage projects

It has a built-in tree view for the project, giving you the possibility to seamlessly cycle through its files and view the code. You can use a basic search function, create bookmarks, check out history, as well as edit code or switch to read-only mode.
BraceMatrix lets you attach new files to the project or remove existing ones, edit project properties (e.g. workspace path, allow external includes, parameters), export code to HTML format, as well as save the project to file and resume it later.

Evaluation and conclusion

The utility didn't put a strain on the overall performance of the computer, thanks to the fact that it needed low CPU and RAM to work properly. On the other hand, it crashed on multiple occasions during our evaluation out of the blue while we were tinkering with its settings.
We should also keep in mind that it hasn't been updated for a long time, and it likely has compatibility issues with newer Windows editions. Nevertheless, you can test it for yourself, since it's free.
