VueScan - the program is designed to replace the standard scanner interface with its own, functionally richer and provides a lot of additional features depending on the specific scanner model.
In most cases, the standard device driver has extremely limited ability to adjust scan parameters. Using the often hidden capabilities of a specific scanner, the program allows you to flexibly customize the image processing process, including advanced color correction, multi-pass and batch scanning capabilities, hardware exposure control, selection of the maximum color depth and the format of saved files.
Of great interest is the function of saving the original scanner data to a file (raw file) and the subsequent processing of this data when the device is turned off, which eliminates the need to re-scan the originals and increases equipment life.
The use of VueScan is especially important when working with transparent originals (negatives, slides), because The program contains information about the color characteristics of more than 150 types of films. We are talking primarily about the color negative mask, which can be very different for different films and manufacturers. The program provides direct selection of masks from the list of common films, as well as the ability to manually adjust the color components of the masking layer.
Custom settings can be saved to a special file, which allows you to create individual profiles for each type of work.
There are automatic removal of image defects due to the infrared scanning channel and multi-pass scanning followed by averaging the result to suppress the intrinsic noise of the scanner. There are filters to suppress the grain, unsharp masking and remove the parasitic tone of the original. There are means of manual adjustment of the dynamic range and gradation characteristics (independently of the channels R, G, B).
VueScan supports over 500 scanner models and RAW files of 185 digital camera models.
