Stella is an open-source Atari 2600 game console emulator available for the Windows, Linux and Mac OS system platforms. It is a real treat for younger as well as older users who would like to go back in time and run hits from 30 years ago on their computer.
The program was created in 1996 in C ++, and its name derives from the code name of the Atari 2600 console. It is characterized by handling almost all cartridges that have ever been released with the thought of the device mentioned above. Support also includes NTSC, PAL and SECAM systems (variant 50 and 60 Hz). Based on the tool, among others JStella project (written in Java) that allows the emulator to run as an applet on any web page.
Stella perfectly copes with the emulation of most peripherals that can work with Atari 2600. Especially about standard joysticks, paddle controllers, touch pads, keyboards, steering wheels, trackballs and many more. At the moment, the authors have not yet introduced support for cassette players in the tool.
