KanjiMe

1.2.1

Developed for Japanese language learning students this nifty little tool appeals to anyone who wants to master learning, understanding, drawing, pronouncing and fiddle with Kanji.  Read more about KanjiMe

As stated by the developer this is an ongoing project with 1245 symbols, offline, audio and drawing capabilities that is tailored to help users learn and practice Kanji. It also supplies English translated examples and a “Kaji of the day” section for inspiration.

Use the Search built-in function and look up symbols by Meaning, Reading or Examples and Grade level. If something catches your eye, use the star option and save it for future reference.

The application has also a Practice Mode that can help when you want to exercise. It provides the ability to draw with distinct colors on a canvas like board, preview, learn or listen to the pronunciation. Select an existing Kanji (set of symbols) and the app show its meaning and a trace to help you draw it. Furthermore, tap the Play button in the upper right corner to hear the correct pronunciation.

I am not sure that there is a market out there for this type of applications and maybe this is a niche that other developers can approach, but if you want to start learning Kanji, the Japanese way of writing with Chinese characters, give this app a try.
