The Android keyboard only shares some of its layouts with the versions that we can find on desktop PC, and it’s for a good reason. It’s not really the most efficient use of screen space, which is quite limited on mobile device.
If you still want to have an old school keyboard layout, don’t fret, you still get to use one. This is where the Hacker's Keyboard comes into play. It replaces the new type keyboard that has separate number keys, punctuation in the usual places, and arrow keys.
The developers explained that it’s based on the AOSP Gingerbread soft keyboard, and that means that it comes with support for multitouch, for the modifier keys.
The only problem is that the localization for the keyboard is not complete, so people might still experience some issues.
