Any device that capable of recording images embeds a variety of information in the photograph, that include details about the hardware being used and the settings utilized when taking the photo. Unless someone is looking for that information, is not usually provided by default.
 
Most image viewers can read this information from photos, but some users might only want the Exif information and nothing else. This is where the Exiftool comes into play. It’s really small and it comes with support for a large number of formats, including EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, JFIF, GeoTIFF, ICC Profile, Photoshop IRB, FlashPix, AFCP and ID3.
